People wounds. Satan’s biggest weapon, using the people that surround you or those you love most as weapons of warfare. Why? Because his plan is to attack at your most vulnerable place, and he knows that is your heart. It’s why the Bible tells us “To guard our hearts because it is the well spring of life.”
Jesus wants you to bring each heart-wound to Him. These kind of wounds cut deep and unless we give each one to Him, they can fester and get infected with bitterness, anger, depression and so many other spirits that God never intended you to have. If this is you, Jesus is standing there before you with His hands out for you to place any of this hurts in the palms of His hands.
“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
Give it to Him. Jeremiah 8:22 describes Jesus as the “Balm of Gilead, the true healer and restorer, the remedy of all sin and loss.”
Words hurt and the devil knows it. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
How do you protect yourself? Recognize that when you are under a heart-attack it is not the person doing the attack, it’s a spirit BEHIND the person. You are in a spiritual battle. You are a soldier – stand firm dressed in what they call “armor” in the Bible. IT is taken right out of Ephesians 6:13-18:
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”
Walk in forgiveness. This is so hard to do, when someone wounds you, the very LAST thing you want to do is forgive them! Know that Jesus understands this! He has experienced “people-wounds” bring it before Him. Ask Him to heal you, to help you walk in love. This really is a part of what is known as “dying to self.” And the BEST way to combat it is to PRAY FOR THOSE WHO PERSECUTE YOU. Even if you have to do it with clenched teeth. Look BEYOND the offender and try to see them as Jesus sees them. I’m not always successful at doing this and no matter how old you are in Christ – each time I experience a heart wound – IT HURTS. Do not give ol’ slewfoot the satisfaction of yelling, “Score!!!!” Instead, do what he fears most – if you have to drop to your knees in pain – turn that pain into prayer. I’ve written a prayer below, which you can fill in with whatever you are lead when you pray. You can pray ANY words this is just an example of what I have prayed. Prayer is conversing with God, so it is as You feel led.
“Father, I’m hurting bad. Everything within my heart is crying out to you. This wound cuts deep and I need You to help me see past it. Father I lift ________________ up to you. I didn’t deserve this attack and I know You see all things, so You know this. You ask me to walk in forgiveness and out of obedience I come before You and I ask that You have my heart line up with my head and see past this pain. I forgive _______________________________. I pray that You reach them. That if need be, You convict _______________________________ of his actions. I ask You to bind up ANY spirits that stand behind this situation in Jesus’ name. I bind the spirit of ________________________ and ___________________ and _____________________ and witchcraft and any spirits that you see that I have not named. As You have forgiven me, I choose to forgive them. Father – bless _____________________ help them to personally know You as Lord and Savior (if they don’t already) and if they DO know You, I pray that You would use them as vessels of Your light and love and not allow satan to have a foothold in their lives. Father, please heal my heart. Bind up this wound, help me to see past this situation and to keep my eyes focused on You. You are the lifter of my head. Thank You that You will be glorified in this situation. Help me to walk in love and not allow any roots of bitterness to overtake me. Help me to see this person as You see them. You are the God of turn-around and I know that You can turn this situation over for Your glory. In Jesus name I choose to release them into Your capable hands. Be glorified, Amen.”
Remember, you belong to the One who is “The lifter of your head.” or as Psalm 3:3 says:
“But you, O LORD, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.”
When you really think about that, it kind of helps take the sting out, doesn’t it? He’s got you and you’ve got this, because the battle isn’t really yours… It’s His. And newsflash – He’s already won.
