“Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
I don’t know about you, but “being still” is not one of my strong points. Oh, I can still my body, that’s not the issue – the issue is in stilling my mind. Spending time before the Father is one that should be a two-way street of conversation.
The enemy knows that if we are still and enter into God’s presence with Thanksgiving and praise that God will meet us where we are at. All this week the song, “Great is Thy Faithfulness” has been going through my mind. Why? Because in this day and age we have lost the concept of how valuable “faithfulness” is. We live in the last days, were anything goes. We live in an age of unfaithful people. People who are only faithful to self. Faithful to their own desires. People who are faithful and led by their feelings, which change on a whim. I ask you, what does it mean to you to be faithful? Google defines faithful as:
“Remaining loyal and steadfast.”
It defines Loyal as:
“Giving or showing firm and constant support.”
Are you doing that? In your marriage? In your relationships? In your relationship to God?
Steadfast is defined as:
“Resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.”
How great are you in your faithfulness? Think about that for a moment. Is your faithfulness to self? The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:2:
“People will be lovers of themselves.”
Exodus 14:14 says:
“The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.”
Sometimes being still requires practice. But the reward in doing so, is oh so much worth the mastering! Two challenges for us this week. The first – practice 20 minutes of being still before the Lord. See what Holy Spirit says to you during that time. No cell phone, no television, nothing – just quiet. Even if it means you have to go for a prayer walk outside, hey – that would be good for your body, soul and spirit! Second, think about doing something for someone you love. Don’t be a “lover of self” love on someone else. Take a moment and think about what you can do to make someone else happy and watch and see the results. Usually, kindness is reciprocated. Pray with me:
“Father, thank You for a fresh new sheet of life to write upon. Thank You for wanting to talk with me, please give me ears to hear, eyes to see and a heart to receive ALL that You have for me this day. Forgive me for the times I’ve missed out on hearing You because of all the noise around me. Help me Holy Spirit to have moments of stillness, so I can hear ALL that You would say to me. Bless my relationships this day Father, first with You and then with others. Help me not to be a “lover of self” but to show others by my actions how I feel about them. You ask me to show the love of Christ, help me to do so. Bless me this day and please be glorified in all I do. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. AMEN.”
