There is something crucial to our total well-being that God wants those of us who are striving to walk in accordance with His calling our lives to remember to do, and that is to allow Holy Spirit to replenish us… Listen, there truly is NO greater joy and satisfaction than walking in the calling that God has for your life. For example, my calling is to be a scribe for the Holy Spirit to fill me up with whatever the Lord wants me to write… I am a vessel and as such I have to recognize the times when I need to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to ME and to refill MY cup. If I don’t refill my spirit by reading God’s Word (the Bible) or by spending time in prayer conversing with God, my cup remains empty and I cannot pour out words of wisdom, words of encouragement, words of experience to those who read my posts. This is why sometimes I don’t write every day. If you think about it, it’s really a spiritual fact, there were times in the Bible where it tells that Jesus would go off on His own to pray and spend time with the Father. An empty vessel cannot pour anything out and when you recognize that that is what you are called to be – a vessel used for the will and purpose of God, you learn to recognize when you need to stop and allow Holy Spirit to minister to YOU.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us:
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
And Isaiah 64:8 says:
“But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”
Once you recognize that you can do NOTHING in and of yourself, then you learn to decipher when the cup of you is beginning to run low and you need to spend time with the Lord, hearing from Him, praying for guidance, direction and wisdom in how to proceed in ALL things. Jeremiah 17:5-8 says:
“Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is in the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” ”
It is so important to remember that we can do NOTHING in and of ourselves, if we don’t keep that in mind, pride can enter into us, and the Bible says in Proverbs 16:18:
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Whenever I sit down at my computer to worship God through obedience to my calling – to write, I always pray this way:
“Father God, I thank You so much for giving me a fresh sheet of life to write upon, I pray that You will help me to write well. If there is any evil within me, I pray that You would remove it. If there is anything that is displeasing to You, I pray that You would change it. I desire to live and move and have my being in You. Holy Spirit, here are my ears, please enable me to hear from You. Here are my eyes, help me to see You clearly. Here is my mouth, help me to speak words from You. Here is my nose, help me to smell Your sweet fragrance. Here is my heart, help me to have a heart for You. Here is my mind, please fill me up with Your Words to write. Here is my heart, let me have a heart for You and for the purpose You have established for my life. Here are my hands, I am Your willing vessel, work through me. Use me as You see fit. I pray that Your good and perfect purpose would be clear to me. I know You have called me to write, but after I have been obedient to my calling, I recognize that the rest is up to You. I pray that like the seeds of a dandelion that You would blow the words You have me write to the East, West, North and South and that the words would fall on ears that will hear and hearts that would receive ALL that You have in store for those You bring those words to, that You may be glorified. Bless EACH person reading these words and help them desire to fulfill Your purpose in their lives, for there is NO better way to live. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
And humbly I tell you, that as Holy Spirit gives me words to write, often those written words are not only for you who are reading them now, but also for me! It’s crazy when you think that the Holy Spirit uses my willing vessel to minister words of encouragement even to me, myself! LOL! Often, because i type 95 words per minute, Holy Spirit flows through my fingers and I often don’t know, until the words are typed out what it is that He is giving me to write! Those of you who also walk in your purpose and calling can probably understand what I’m saying, especially if God has called you to be a mouth or voice for Him. Many of my friends who preach tell me that they often what they have diligently prepared in a sermon sometimes gets changed up to something totally Holy Spirit gives them when they stand to preach. They are sensitive to being a vessel unto God to know when they have to shift gears and change to the sensitivity of Holy Spirit’s leading. Whatever your calling is, be it writing, preaching, teaching, or whatever God has called you to do, we have to make sure that we are taking care of our own selves spiritually too, otherwise we are susceptible to allowing the enemy a foothold in our emotions, in our physical health. I find that when I begin to feel like this, it usually is by feeling down, discouraged or even aggravated with myself. I’ve learned to catch myself and put on praise and worship music. Pick up my Bible and turn to the book of Psalms. Call a sister or brother in Christ and check in with them, focus on something that is not about me, but about someone else. Take my dog out for a walk, put on the latest audible book I’m listening to, turn on a sermon. Turn away from my computer and take time to allow Holy Spirit to minister a fresh Word to me. It is only following that, that I can come back to writing, usually with a fresh Rhema Word from Holy Spirit to share. I am learning the signs and symptoms that tell me I need to refuel.
Psalm 1:1-3 tells us:
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law, day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers.”
God wants us to make sure that we are spending time IN HIM. Refueling, rejuvenating. Pray and recognize when you need to do so, so that you don’t allow yourself to get burnt out, Jesus did it – and we are to look for Him as our example and go off and spend time with the Father as well. So we can continue to walk in obedience to all He has called us to do. Isaiah 40:31 says:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
Recognize within yourself the symptoms of weariness, which signifies that you need to stop and allow Holy Spirit to refuel you so that you can continue on. Remember you are a spirit that has a soul that resides within a body, be conscientious of who God has created you to be as a whole.
There is no greater joy and peace that fills your soul when you walk in ALL areas of your life in obedience to the direction of Holy Spirit. Learning to discern what it is and when it is He wants you to move is a lifelong process. Spiritual growth is one that we will continue to need to be sensitive too ALL the days of our lives, for as God uses us in our God Ordained gifts, we will continue to grow and mature in Him, as long as we remember that He is our source. He is the way, the truth and the life and we are to abide ALWAYS in Him.
