We think of Bible stories like they are “fantasy stories” but the fact of the matter – the TRUE fact is that they are actually historic events that took place. The times were different and their way of going about life was with accordance to the times – but if you really think about it, they were really NO different than you and I. The feelings we have are the SAME feelings they had, the situations in terms with dealing with people were the same, they dealt with sickness, illness, disease, sin, death just as we do in these current times.
THEY WERE PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU AND I, ONLY THEY LIVED IN A DIFFERENT ERA
The Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 1:8-11:
“The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. No one remembers the former generations, and even those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow them.”
We need to think of those we read about in the Bible as the REAL people they were! They had strengths! They had faults! They had worries! They had concerns! They had issues!
THE ONLY PERFECT ONE THAT EVER LIVED IS JESUS!
God gave them to us as examples of how we SHOULD be and what we SHOULD NOT be like. He gave us them as examples to show that there is NOTHING that occurs in life that God has not addressed to some degree or another in the Bible! It is our GPS or instructional guide to get through life! People’s DUMBEST, BIGGEST mistake is not reading it, allowing it to be “front in center on a shelf in your home” without ever picking it up and studying it!
IT IS TRUTH! IT IS SUSTENANCE! IT IS STRENGTH! IT IS WISDOM! IT IS KNOWLEDGE!
If we study it we gain nuggets of wisdom to apply to WHATEVER situation we encounter. It was written for a reason! If your desire is to get to know the God Who created you, draw closer to Him and know His heart – the BEST way to do that is to READ HIS WORD! 2 Timothy 3:16 says;
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
John 8:31-32:
“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” “
THE ONLY TRUE FORM OF FREEDOM IS FOUND IN READING THE WORD OF GOD AND APPLYING IT TO YOUR LIFE
Of course, there will be people who read the words of this post and scoff at it, and that is their prerogative but 1 Corinthians 2:14 tells us:
“The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.”
We can’t get through the challenges of this life successfully without the tools that God gives us to do so. We were NEVER meant to “go it alone.” We were created by God to be in complete fellowship with Him. We are not equipped to handle some things in life that only God can handle. That’s like expecting a baby to take care of himself without the aid and guidance of their parent(s).
WE NEED GOD
True wisdom comes when we recognize our need for God, and we confess to Him our need. If that is you, you needn’t be ashamed – it is in the knowing that God is able to help you in the way He desires. There is NO shame in knowing that you CANNOT get through this thing called life without Him, because the truth of the matter is:
WE CAN’T
“Father God, we thank You for providing Your Word – The Bible for us.
