Let’s be honest – Life gets messy. We do everything we can to try and feel as if we have some assembly of control, but the truth is – we don’t. Maybe you are like me, someone who thrives in routine, planning, getting my ducks “all in a row.” But the truth is, life doesn’t always go along with the plans we make. Think about it – we try to cover ALL of life’s situations with health insurance, life insurance, short term or/and long term care insurance, savings, trusts, wills, etc., whatever we can think of to try to be covered in ANY situation “just in case” we need it. And we feel a false sense of peace because we’ve got “everything under control.” But the truth in all actuality is we don’t. The Bible says in James 4:13-16:
“Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.”
Jesus tells this parable in Luke 12:16-21:
“And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
We overlook the fact that we were not created to live independently from our Creator. We are not “self-sufficient”, even though we live as if we are. That is our BIGGEST mistake. This i where the devil has blinded the minds of man, making them believe that “we don’t NEED God” when the absolute opposite is true.
MORE THAN AIR, MORE THAN FOOD, MORE THAN WATER – WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS TO REALIZE WE NEED GOD
We are a spirit that has a soul that is housed within the confines of a physical body. But most of us only focus on the physical – which is not eternal. We worry about what will happen in THIS life we have and totally disregard or pay mind to the fact of what the Bible says in James 4:14 that says:
“Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
The cemeteries are FULL of the physical remains of those that came before us – testifying on the truth of the above scripture. While it is wise to live life wisely, the wisest way a person can live is not with every worldly possession of every kind of insurance, but with the MOST important insurance that gives assurance and that is accepting God’s gift of redemption by choosing to accept Jesus’ gift of salvation, choosing to make Him LORD OVER your life (which covers not only your physical life, but more importantly – your ETERNAL life), and here is the thing – it ONLY costs you the decision to do so, because Jesus ALREADY paid the price.
It’s the only insurance that gives you what earthly insurance cannot give you – the peace that passes ALL understanding through what life throws your way. And the GREATEST thing is that you can be assured that your Insurer (Jesus) will walk with you EVERY step of the way. He doesn’t leave you to “figure it all out” yourself. The fact of the matter is that unless you cover yourself under the precious blood of Jesus, you HAVE no true assurance in insurance. It is a false “bravado” that makes you think you are all set. You are not. You have just paid a great deal of money thinking that you have prepared for every situation that might come your way. You haven’t – because you have only considered the “physical” side which is fleeting and not the eternal side – which is everlasting.
Let me say it this way – if you reject God’s gift of redemption (which can ONLY come through accepting His Son, Jesus) and if you choose to live a life of total dependency on self – without God, He who created you with free will, will give you just what you decide. But in choosing to live a physical life in this world without Him, you are choosing to live an eternal life without Him as well.
NOT HIS CHOICE – BUT YOURS…
Proverbs 1:7 tells us:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Colossians 2:8 instructs us:
“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”
The best insurance can only be found in the assurance of salvation through Christ Jesus. As long as you have breath in your body the enrollment period is open. Isn’t it time you experienced the blessed assurance that can only be found in Him? It’s the most important decision you will EVER make, one that will last for ALL eternity.
