The Word of God is very prevalent for this day and age. In fact, I believe that if we would just be obedient and study the Word of God, the results would/do promote spiritual, emotional AND physical benefits. In fact, I’d even bet that a “scripture a day” would be better then Mary Poppin’s “spoonful of sugar” in aiding what ails us in today’s world. I got to thinking about Psalm 46:10 and how we are living in the craziest of times. As soon as I read it, my spirit started calming down. Scripture really does have a calming affect. Psalm 46: 10 says:
“Be still and know that I am God.”
We live in a microwave society, where everyone wants what they want right a way, right now! To say many of us have to multi-task And juggle more then we ever imagined we would, is an understatement. Most of us wear many different hats, with hardly a moment to change one hat to another, but this is a Word that we really need to pay attention to because anxiety and stress are not what God intended for any of us to experience, ironic that it is abundant in today’s world.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, feeling like you can’t catch a break, emotionally and physically (and maybe even spiritually), exhausted, here is a prescription right from the Bible that comes from the greatest physician ever – the Creator Himself. Go some place where you can sit quietly, maybe put on some worship music in the background and meditate on the following:
Psalm 46:10:
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
Psalm 37:7:
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries evil devices!”
Psalm 131:2:
“But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.”
Lamentations 3:24-26:
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”
Isaiah 26:3:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
1 Peter 3:4:
“But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”
Isaiah 40:31:
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Seriously – you’ve got to try it! Whatever it is that is causing you to feel anxious or worried – pick up your Bible, turn to the concordance (or even Google “calming scriptures”) and begin to read. Don’t only read them, think about them. Meditate on the Word of God, and watch and see what Holy Spirit does within you…
It makes sense when you think about it, it is WHY God gave us His Word (the Bible). The BEST medicine you can apply to ANY situation… OR as it says in Psalm 34:8:
“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”
He REALLY, TRULY is! 🙂
