Have you ever listened to your favorite radio station and then all of a sudden the frequency gets interrupted? You hear two stations simultaneously at the same time and find it hard to make out yours? Or you hear static and you reach over to slightly turn the dial so that you can get a clearer connection? Sometimes that can be the case in tuning in prayerfully to what Holy Spirit is telling you, the noise of the situation, your feelings, advice from people around you makes it more difficult to hear Holy Spirit without distraction. I have to say, “Holy Spirit, can you please raise up the volume so I can hear you better?” π
It is moments like that when I have come to the realization that sometimes the disruption in hearing what God is saying and what He is doing because I’ve been caught up in situational noise, not realizing that God has been answering prayers because my ear has been tuned in on the problem. Has that happened with you?
It’s like you get this big “Aha!” moment where your perspective switches from circumstance to faith and you realize that God always works behind the scenes… In other words, God hears your prayers… HE HEARS YOU. Are YOU tuned in to the frequency of HIM?
If you think about it, we have been taught and raised to be dependent upon our physical senses. We’ve come to trust in what we see, what we taste, what we hear, what we smell, what we touch, but we forget – we are a spirit that has a soul that is encamped within a physical body. We should not focus our faith on the physical. We are SO much more than our physical bodies! Spiritual discernment is something that the more we tune in and listen we can get stronger in recognizing. It’s a gift that if you want it – Holy Spirit will give it to you, you just have to learn to adjust the volume. Paul speaks of the gifts of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11:
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He distributes them to each one, just as He determines.”
God, through Holy Spirit has blessed you with spiritual gifts – just as God has blessed you with your physical senses, God has blessed you with spiritual ones as well. As you grow and mature in Christ, you start to realize what gifts are predominant within you. For instance, I know for myself that one of the gifts God has bestowed upon me is the Spirit of Discernment (distinguishing between the spirits), the more I pray for wisdom as I am around people, the more I have developed a sense of discernment around the people I am around. It hasn’t failed, although there are times when I haven’t always paid much attention to it, and because I don’t always act in the spirit of wisdom (but in naivete), I have not always paid attention to the “frequency” of what Holy Spirit has been saying, and that is when His voice will get softer and softer, as I have relied upon my physical senses (allowed them to be louder) then my spiritual senses. Holy Spirit never forces anyone to do anything, we have been created with free will, hence we can choose to listen to our circumstances shouting ALL around us, or we can choose to focus our attention on God, realizing that He is GREATER than ANY situation and put our physical senses in their proper place. (No matter how old you are in Christ, that is STILL for most of us a DAILY exercise). Remember, you are a spirit, who has a soul, that is encased in a physical body.
2nd Corinthians 5:7 tells us:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
How are you walking? When you change your perspective and choose to step out in matters in FAITH and not go by what you are seeing in the physical, it brings about a WHOLE new perspective. God’s perspective IS His Word. God NEVER goes against His Word. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to immerse yourself in the Word of God so you can learn how to tune yourself in more to what Holy Spirit is saying to you. It is really an amazing thing when you choose to do this. All of a sudden you have “pumped up the volume” to the scriptures you read and as you read His Word, the words come alive – the LIVING WORD OF GOD and the volume overcomes ANY noise from life’s situations! All of a sudden Holy Spirit quiets anxiety by bringing to remembrance Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, lean not to your own understanding, in ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your path.”
Or a scripture that pertains to anxiety or worry that will come front and center into your mind to remind you what God’s Word says about your circumstances. That is just one example, but I assure you, the Bible tells us in Isaiah 55:11:
“So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: It shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
As you exercise yourself to rely on your spiritual senses alongside your physical ones (both are from God), you will find yourself walking in the fullness of God. You are a spirit, who has a soul, who has a physical shell – your body. When we learn to do this, we experience God’s perfect peace. We experience God’s wisdom and we realize that with every circumstance, GOD IS GREATER and as Holy Spirit resides in us, God goes before us, besides us, behind us and He IS in control. Does that fill you with His peace? I know it fills ME with it, as there is NO greater joy than knowing that I am in the center of God’s will and He is in control, even when I feel out of control (because I’m not supposed to be led by my feelings, but be led by my God).
Give Holy Spirit the authority to tune His Spirit up within you, it is why Jesus’ had Holy Spirit come as He ascended to Heaven. Holy Spirit is our Instructor, our Comforter, our Guide. We need to give Him the authority to “pump up the volume” and to diminish the noise around us that keeps us to hear what it is He is trying to say, trying to direct us so that we can walk in God’s will, in God’s peace, in God’s joy, in God’s forgiveness and in God’s love. As we give Holy Spirit the authority to “tune up His volume” the rest trying to overpower Him have to submit and quiet down because as in 1 John 4:4:
“Greater is He that is in you, than he that is within the world.”
Are you ready to pump up His volume? You will be surprised by ALL that He will do. All of a sudden you will see that some of the prayers you were praying have already been answered, you just haven’t seen it because you were focused on the problem while God has been focused on providing you with a solution. You were listening to the noise of worry, the noise of anxiety, the noise of the problem… It’s time to allow Holy Spirit to correct that frequency and clarify His station in your life. Let’s pump up that Holy Spirit volume! And it MIGHT get loud – in Him. π
