I have learned that we really do make a mistake when we try to “put God in a box…” Think about it – sometimes we try to dictate to God how it is that He should answer our prayers. I am sitting here typing this with a sheepish expression on my face because even if you won’t be honest about this – I will, let’s just tell the truth and shame the devil! I have brought things before the alter of God with a plan mapped out on how I can “help God, help me.” Can you believe that? J As if God NEEDS our advice, or our help in accomplishing His good and perfect will! I have a lot of nerve! J But you probably never do that, right? J
Think about that for a moment – let’s bring this a step closer to what we can identify with – imagine (if you are a parent), your child coming up to you giving you “a piece of advice.” Tell me that would make you raise an eyebrow at that them?
It is an amazing thing when God allows me to see the work He is doing behind the scenes of my life. God doesn’t always do that – He DOESN’T HAVE TO, but sometimes, by His grace, He takes my hand and says:
“You needed healing in your life, you thought I was going to go about doing it this way – but see? I know what I’m doing and I am doing it THIS way. Kelly, I KNOW what I’m doing. TRUST ME.”
And I will tell you, I was amazed… The Bible tells us in Isaiah 55:8-9:
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways. And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Beloved Reader, you can TRUST God. You can bet that God, who created YOU knows exactly what you need and when you need it. And if you are blessed enough for Him to ACTUALLY EXPLAIN what it is He is doing behind the scenes of whatever situation you are bringing before Him – well, that is TOTALLY God’s grace and it will humble you as it humbled me.
GOD KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING, HE DOES NOT NEED OUR “ADVICE” OR “INSTRUCTION”
1 Corinthians 1:27-31 says:
“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.”
Throughout the Bible God surprised people by picking and using individuals that others were surprised God would… God uses the unqualified, and if He did it throughout the Bible, you can BET (because He is the same today as He was yesterday, as He will be tomorrow) He’s doing the SAME THING today.
There are MANY examples of who the people back then would have categorized as “highly unqualified” to be used by God and through God. I am only going to list their names for you to refer to, but study them for yourselves in the Bible and you will see what I am talking about.
Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Gideon, Samson, Rahab, David, Elijah, Jonah, Naomi…
The stories are there in the Word of God for a reason. And the VERY LAST ONE they expected God to use was OUR Savior, OUR Lord, OUR Redeemer – JESUS.
So when we talk about times when people “Put God in a Box” – they did it then and we STILL do it now. WE DO IT NOW.
Don’t TELL God WHAT He needs to do, WHO He needs to use, HOW He needs to do what you are believing Him to do – JUST LET HIM. JUST TRUST HIM. JUST PRAISE HIM. JUST BELIEVE HIM. JUST LOVE HIM.
And the God who created the ENTIRE World. The God Who is called by so many names – but one of my very favorite names – EL ROI (i.e. the God who sees you). Will accomplish and do things that our little tiny minds (compared to His) can fathom.
Just looking back and seeing ALL that God has done in my life, even during the times when I have been going through the fire – He IS true to His Word. When I stopped looking at my circumstances and started looking at my God WHO IS GREATER THAN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES (excuse me – can I stop here and remind you that our Lord and Savior was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sin-less life, died on the cross for forgiveness of OUR sins, resurrected FROM the dead and is currently seated at the right hand of the Father interceding on OUR behalf? He is there until God the Father gives the command that He should return) and as in 1 Corinthians 15:52:
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
If no grave could hold our Lord and Savior, what box can we construct that would uphold our God???
My heart soars with love and joy that God knows what He is doing, even when we don’t. We do NOT have to trust in and of ourselves or our situations, we can TRUST IN GOD. He won’t EVER fail us. We only need to trust in Him, ALWAYS.
