The Bible says in Luke 6:45:
“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
God knows our hearts. God knows our thoughts. I never understood why people “think” they can fool God instead of being transparent and honest before Him. Maybe it’s because we have a hard time being “transparent” and “honest” to ourselves? I know with me, sometimes its the fact that my feelings feel all jungled up… Like a BIG knot that I haven’t taken the time to comb out. We are afraid to face whatever it is that is causing us unrest, frustration… Because if we take time to comb through what we are feeling, we have to DO something about it… And that can be scary… Especially if what we are feeling involves other people.
Coming clean with God, having a heart to heart, one on one conversation with Him can be exactly what we need to do. Matthew 11:28-30 says:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Jesus SAID that for a reason – He knows what it feels like to be overburdened, worried, concerned. There is NOTHING that we have gone through that Jesus can’t relate or to or understand. The truth of the matter is that God DID NOT create us to carry things on our own, we were made to be dependent upon Him! We weren’t SUPPOSE to be “figuring out stuff on our own.” I know that our way of life is one where we are used to trying to come up with solutions and resolution on our own, many of us have been raised to believe it is a sign of weakness to depend on someone else. But that is a lie from the pit of hell! Many of us carry burdens that God NEVER meant us to carry on our own. That is why so many people become physically or emotionally ill! We were not made to carry such a heavy load on our own shoulders. We have to learn to bring things to the foot of the Cross.
TELL GOD WHAT IS ON YOUR MIND. HE INVITES US TO DO SO, HE WANTS US TO COME AND UNLOAD OUR BURDENS TO HIM.
If you are a parent, imagine seeing your child clearly struggling with something on his mind. Maybe that child isn’t sleeping, isn’t eating, is grumpy, introverted. As a parent you can tell that something is bothering your child, but how does it make you feel if you see him/her struggling and not sharing with you whatever it is? I know that it would make ME concerned. I know that I would encourage my child to come share with me whatever it is that is on his/her mind. God wants the same with us.
Jesus says in Revelations 3:20:
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
God has given us the medicine, we just need to take it… Time with Him. When we allow ourselves to unburden ourselves to Him, Holy Spirit is able to minister to us, to speak with us… We just need to take the time to talk to Him. It’s not as if He doesn’t know all that is on our minds, it takes us stepping out and taking time to pray (talk to Him) and the reason why He wants us to talk to Him, is because He knows that in talking to Him, it helps us to collect our thoughts and express them. Sometimes in doing so, we get clarity just by expressing ourselves to Him. I know it is not always the easiest thing to do – it can be hard! I struggle with this myself, but it is freeing when we come to God in prayer and talk to Him! It is what having a personal relationship with Him through the blood of Jesus is ALL about! And it is something that satan does NOT want us to do, go to God in prayer. satan wants us to isolate ourselves, which makes us more vulnerable to his attacks and accusations. Remember that the devil is the father of lies. When we enter into God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise and confession and prayer, He IS readily there to meet us! To advise us! To speak to us! We only have to be willing to meet with Him.
“Father God, I thank You that through Jesus you have made a way for me to boldly come to Your throne in prayer. I thank You that You loved me enough to leave the glories of Heaven and come down, born to the Virgin Mary, as the second part of the Trinity – Jesus, to make a way for me to reconnect with You! Thank You Jesus for taking my sins and the sins of the world upon Your sinless self through Your death and resurrection on the cross! You paid a mighty price to restore me to a relationship with God the Father, so that I could pray and talk to Him, and hear from Holy Spirit, the third part of the Trinity, to guide and direct me through life. Thank You so much! Forgive me for the times when I haven’t taken full advantage of the gift You have given me – prayer and communication with You! Please Holy Spirit, give me the words to say, sometimes I find it hard to express ALL that is in my head and heart and so I choose to turn from it, which doesn’t help me at all. Lord, I need You. I can’t make it without You. Please help me, guide me, heal me in ALL the areas where I need Your special touch. I may not even know exactly WHAT it is that is hindering me, or bothering me – but I know YOU do. So Father, I come before and I ask that You would help me to be able to pinpoint exactly WHAT it is I am struggling with communicating with You. I only know I am struggling! Please give me ears to see, eyes to hear, a nose to smell Your sweet fragrance and a heart that will receive ANYTHING You would minister to me by Your Spirit. I love You Father God, I love You Jesus, I love You Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.”
The prayer I’ve written doesn’t list specifics – but if Holy Spirit helps you to reveal ALL that you are burdened by, unburden your heart to God. TELL HIM. TALK TO HIM. Hey – it’s just You and Him! No one else! You don’t NEED an intercessor to help bring whatever it is on your heart before Him, the Bible tells us Jesus is our High Priest. Go before the Father and pour out your heart to Him. He is there and He is listening – and He cares! And He knows that even though “He knows our thoughts before we think them” (See Psalm 139:2) He knows that part of making you feel better, is expressing it. Talking about it. So what are you waiting for? Your Father is waiting… 😉
