I want to encourage you to pray the following:
“Father, please give me ears to hear You, eyes to see You and a heart to receive ALL You have for me. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, Amen.”
The language Holy Spirit speaks with me in may NOT be the same way He converses with you! Listen, it is called a “personal relationship” for a reason! Think about it, if you are married your husband (or wife) knows you in an intimate way that no other should, right? Your relationship with God should be one that is above ALL others, because God, your Creator knows you in a way that NOT EVEN your husband/wife knows you! Honestly, there is no greater joy than having what I call, “God moments,” times when you recognize that God is speaking to you and ONLY you through Holy Spirit. There is truly NO greater joy than experiencing an intimate relationship with the Father, and if you think about it, it makes sense because we were created to BE in a personal and intimate relationship with our God, and when we position ourselves to hear from Him and actually hear Him, there is NO greater joy! Your Heavenly Father loves you BEYOND what you can imagine and takes GREAT joy of shared moments with Him! How God reaches you may be different in how He reaches me, but what matters is the joy that floods your soul when you experience that one-on-one relationship with the Father Who loved you SO very much that He left the glories of Heaven to take on human flesh (Jesus) and meet YOU right here where you are! Born of the virgin Mary, This is the same God Who not only took upon His sin-less self YOUR sins and mine, chose to die a horrid death on a cross that He did NOT deserve, rose from the dead victoriously defeating sin AND death and RIGHT now is seated at the right hand of the Father interceding on YOUR (and mine) behalf, and will come again to gather us unto Himself, but prior to His ascension to Heaven sent Holy Spirit to us to be our Teacher, Comforter and Guide until His return! Now if THAT isn’t love and if THAT isn’t personal, I don’t know WHAT is!!! I was recently in deep prayer about a decision I needed to make, I wanted to make sure whatever that decision was would keep me in the center of God’s will for my life. God knows I love nature, my favorite place to feel closest to God is at my favorite beach in Cape Cod, but God also speaks to me through nature. Holy Spirit has often brought squirrels or Cardinals or other animals close to me in times when I have been conversing with Him. This day that I am referring to, is one where I was parked by myself in a cement-built garage. I could see trees from a short distance from where my car was situated, as I continued to pray for an answer the grey bushy tail of a squirrel caught my eye from a tree far, far away from where I sat alone, praying in my car. I decided to lay a fleece before the Lord as Gideon did in Judges 6:36-40:
“So Gideon said to God, “If You will save Israel by my hand as You have said – look, I shall put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that You will save Israel by my hand, as You have said.” And it was so. When he rose early the next morning and squeezed the fleece together, he wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlful of water. Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me, but let me speak just once more: Let me test, I pray, just once more with the fleece; let it now be dry only on the fleece, but on all the ground let there be dew.” And God did so that night. It was dry on the fleece only, but there was dew on all the ground.”
So, I prayed the following:
“Father God, if it is Your will that what I am seeking You on IS indeed the direction You would have me go, I ask that You would have Holy Spirit turn that grey squirrel way in the distance in that tree over to my direction, right in on the cement ledge right in front of my car, and I will know that I am indeed that what I am seeking You on IS indeed in line with the center of Your will for my life.”
Well, no sooner had I prayed that prayer than the squirrel did a 360 degree turn around and came boogety-booging in my direction, it was almost comical! But Holy Spirit (Who by the way has the greatest sense of humor) took it a step further! The squirrel came leaping onto the parked SUV next to me, right up onto the right passenger side mirror, leaned forward with his body and looked me straight up in eye! Seriously, we were just about eye to eye! If I had dared to, I could have reached my hand out and gathered him into it! It was so astonishing and so quick that I laughed and said to Him:
“Well, hello there!”
I had my answer! And my joy in knowing that Holy Spirit was answering me in a way that He and I recognized was the sweetest of sweet! I can honestly tell you that I went through the rest of my day smiling – not because of the answer I received, but because there is NOTHING better than knowing that God IS speaking to you, desires to do so and wants you to be in the center of His will. It pleases Him for us to seek Him on just what that is and to be obedient and position ourselves in a way that we can receive a “Rhema” Word from Him.
We make hearing from God SO much more difficulty than it needs to be! We simply need to trust and believe that God desires to speak with us – because He does!!! Sometimes we try to listen too hard and get frustrated because we miss it! Remember that God will meet you where you are at, through His Word, through a person, through the gifts He has given you – is music your thing? Maybe He is speaking to you through lyrics of a song… Maybe it is through nature (like with me) … I know one beautifully anointed sister that God speaks to her with balloons! She cannot go on a prayer walk without God reaching out to her through their prayer language, often He sends her balloons with messages on them! She’ll come across them floating in the air on her prayer walk, or on the ground. The point is, you will recognize how God is speaking to you when He does it, you just have to tune yourself in to what is around you and be expectant to hearing from your Father Who desires so much to talk with you! Your relationship with God IS personal, it is between you and Him and no one else, continue to seek Him. The Bible says in Matthew 7:7-11:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Intimate moments with God are between you and Him, I share a couple of my experiences because I want you to see how personal they are as will be the case with you! There truly is NO greater joy than being in a personal relationship with a God Who loves you more than any words I could write can say! The most important relationship you will EVER develop! Heaven on earth is experiencing a relationship with the Father, may you truly taste for yourself and see how GOOD God is, because He is a GOOD, GOOD Father! He TRULY is!
