Whoever came up with the saying:
“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
Must not have had a personal relationship with Holy Spirit! 😉 Lamentations 3:22-23 says:
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
Here is the thing about accepting Jesus into your heart as Savior, making Him Lord OVER your life – a life which if you have done this, means it is no longer your own, you have given it to Him. Therefore, according to Galatians 2:20:
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
You don’t know the truth of this until you begin to have what I call, “spiritual growing pains” in Him. Holy Spirit has taken residence within your heart and has begun doing a work within you, changing things that need changing (even if it doesn’t feel like it, He’s doing it for your better). Let me attest that as long as you have breath in your body and are open to allowing Him to make those changes for you to grow in Christ – He will! And there will be times when those changes come along with situations that are painful, situations that God will use in your life to grow you and to use you as His vessel to help grow others.
Now don’t get me wrong – God does NOT delight in your pain, remember, the environment that we live in is NOT the world God intended us to dwell, the fall of Adam and Eve told to us in the book of Genesis brought with their disobedience, sin, death, sickness, illness and disease. Can you imagine as a Father, how MUCH it pained Him to know that His creation (us) would experience things He NEVER intended for us to go through? If you are a parent to a teenager, I am sure you can relate – I know as a parent, I can. God gifted us with “free will” because love doesn’t MAKE you love, it allows you the choice to do so. But here is the thing – God said in Deuteronomy 31:6:
“I will never leave nor forsake you.”
There is comfort in that… No matter WHAT we go through in this life, God IS with us. Being a Christian doesn’t mean you won’t experience pain, Jesus said in John 16;33:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
What are you going through right now? Do you feel as though you are alone? You are not! Do you feel as though you can’t “do” this thing called life anymore? I know sometimes we feel like throwing in the towel of life sometimes, but this is where we need to cry out to God as David did in Psalms. We were not created to go through life alone, God created us to be in fellowship WITH HIM. Cry out to Him!
“Father God, You PROMISED me that You would NEVER leave NOR forsake me! I am in pain! I don’t see a way out! But YOU do! You said in Your Word that You have OVERCOME the world! Help me Father! I NEED YOU! I am YOURS; my life belongs to YOU! Have mercy and send forth your angels to assist me! Holy Spirit make a way where I don’t SEE a way – YOU ARE the Way, the Truth AND the Life! There is NOTHING I cannot get through without You by my side! Thank You that You reign Lord! Thank You that the victory IS mine in Christ! Thank You that my steps are ORDERED by You! Therefore I choose THIS day to trust in You! I CHOOSE to walk BY FAITH and NOT by what I see or be led by my feelings! Jesus, help my feelings to line up with my faith! Bring them under submission to You! I give you this situation (NAME IT) that is giving me pain, that is giving me turmoil, that is giving me the opportunity to walk in trust to You. I love You Father, be glorified in this situation. In Jesus precious name I pray, Amen.”
Remember, God sees the FULL picture, we only see in part. We need to walk in trust with Him and no matter HOW long you have been in Christ, trust is a multi-layered process… This is where we really have to continuously ask ourselves:
“DO WE TRUST GOD?”
Do you trust Him? If you are struggling with this, ask Him for His help to trust Him MORE. Don’t be ashamed by having to do so, believe me – God wants you to be honest with Him. Hey – the Bible tells us in Psalm 139:1-6:
“Lord, you have examined me and know all about me. You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know my thoughts before I think them. You know where I go and where I lie down. You know everything I do. Lord, even before I say a word, You already know it. You are all around me—in front and in back— and have put your hand on me. Your knowledge is amazing to me; it is more than I can understand.”
One day, when God has called us home, we will understand ALL things. There will be NO more questions, we will know in full – right now we only know in part, that is why we have to trust Him Who knows (and sees) ALL things. God does not love as people loves – He will not deceive You. We CAN trust Him. We CAN walk by faith; we just have to make a choice to let go and let God. Sometimes that can be the hardest thing of all to do, but God wants you to know that you CAN do hard things, and in releasing whatever it is to God – He takes control. He loves You SO much. Trust Him, He will NEVER fail you, He will NEVER let you go. And here is one of the wonderful things about God, what we go through strengthens us in Him… And when we look back at whatever we have gone through in hindsight the view is so much MORE different than the process it took for us to see it… God IS such a GOOD God, He will NEVER let us go, we just have to hold on tight to Him and trust Him in the process of this thing called life.
