Below the Surface

The Bible tells us that God looks at the heart.  Throughout Jesus’ interactions with people, he saw beyond the surface level of people.  The lepers, the tax collectors, the demon possessed, to name just a few.  Jesus looked beyond what society saw.  He looked beyond the surface level.

As He did then, He does now.  He looks beyond the surface level of you and of me, He is El Roi (the God who sees me).  Does that make you emotional when you read that?  I know it does me, in an age where people judge, gossip, critique; in a time where people feel discouraged, alone, depressed, misunderstood, etc.  El Roi is there.  God came down in earthly form to meet us where we are at, it became personal.  It IS personal.  GOD SEES YOU.

In a day and age where people try to hide who they are, how they feel, what is going on their lives, it helps to know there is a personal God, who LOVES YOU.  Who SEES you.  Who cares. He left Heaven to come down to earth to reach His arms out to you, the only thing we need to do, is respond by reaching our arms in return out to Him and if we let Him, He will wrap His arms of love around us.  We only need to reach out.

It does NOT matter what people think, it matters what God thinks.  At the end of our lives we will give an account before the Lord.  We still before Him.  No one will be standing with you or with me.  We will stand before Him by ourselves to give an account of our lives.  Romans 14:11-13 says:

“It is written: “’As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.”

God sees below the surface level of you.  He sees your heart.  Ol’ slewfoot tries to keep us distracted from the truth of God’s love for us because He doesn’t want you to see that you have a God who cares.  A God who sees you.  A God who knows you!  He doesn’t want you to know the fullness of God’s love for you and tries to keep you blinded from ALL that God would have you know.  He wants you to feel as though you are alone, that “nobody knows the troubles I have had, nobody knows the sorrows….” GOD KNOWS.  HE SEES YOU.

“He is an ever present help in time of trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

“He has made you the head and not the tail.” (Deuteronomy 28:13)

“He has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

There are SO many promises that God has given you.  But you have to look BEYOND yourself, BEYOND your circumstances and allow God to reveal Himself to you.  He IS the lifter of your head, you just have to ALLOW Him to do so.  Jesus said in Matthew 1:28-30:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The key word is COMECOME to HIMCOME to JESUS. COME.  You have to make up your mind to COME

He sees below the surface of you and He loves you.  You don’t have to have a pretense before Him or “suck it up” or have airs and be puffed up.  JESUS SEES YOU.  All of You – the good, the bad and the ugly and He loves you through it all.

“Father, I thank You that You know me and I can come to You as I am.  Please forgive me of my sins, forgive me for the times when I tried to hide things from You.  I pray that if there be anything displeasing about me to You, that You would change it.  Anything that needs healing – I pray You would heal.  I pray that You would help me to have a deeper relationship with You.  Cleanse me with your precious blood.  Walk with me, talk with me and help me to see You better, Hear You clearer and receive ALL that You would want to say to me.  I love You Father, thank YOU for seeing below the surface level of me and loving me in the fullness of who I am.  Help me to become ALL that You desire me to be.  In Jesus’ precious name I pray Amen.”
