Many people think that the term “surrender” is a sign of weakness or an admission of defeat… The truth is spiritual surrender is actually a sign of maturity. What is it that Holy Spirit is bringing to your mind as you read this post? The spirit of pride and a feeling of indignation may rise up within you as you read this post… You may be puffing up your chest and scowling saying:
“I don’t have to surrender to anything. I am fine on my own. I got this!”
(Whatever “this” is).
But the truth of the matter is, although we *may think* we are fine on our own… That we don’t *need* anybody or anything – we would be sorely mistaken. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 16:18:
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
We were not created to live a life separated from God. We simply weren’t. John 15:5 tells us:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
In fact, Acts 17:28 tells us:
“For in Him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.”
I speak from personal experience, if you have made Jesus your Savior, Lord OVER your life than Holy Spirit has made you aware that you NEED Him. You have reached a point where you CANNOT make it on your own, that you are dependent upon the Sovereign God. There truly is NO shame in reaching that point! In fact, admitting that you NEED God to come into your life is the FIRST sign of true wisdom. The truth of the matter is, even though the world may say otherwise, we CANNOT really make it without God. It doesn’t matter if you have wealth, riches or fame – all of that fades away. You can’t take that with you! But when you put your faith in God. When you recognize that there is something deep within you that is crying out for MORE, that is your spirit longing for a relationship with the One Who created you to be in fellowship with Him. NOTHING can take the place of God in your life, though many try to fill it with other things. Even for those who won’t admit it – deep within the very center of them is their spirit crying out for more than “just this.”
In Christ there is peace, no matter what occurs around you. There is love, there is completeness, there is fullness, there is purpose. Acts 17:21 says:
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
Beloved, when you are in Christ – when the storms of life blow around you, you have a confidence that the world cannot give you, that money can’t buy you, that you can’t *give* yourself. It is the confidence that God has you! That because you have made Jesus Lord OVER your life, accepted Him into your heart as Lord and Savior, you know that YOU BELONG TO HIM. And even when you don’t FEEL victorious, you recognize that you are not to be led by your feelings, but by faith in the One who left the comforts of Heaven, born of the virgin Mary, Jesus, Who lived a sin-less life, died on the cross for sins He did not commit – He died for OUR sins. He rose from the cross-defeating sin and death and EVEN RIGHT NOW is seated on the right hand of the Father, interceding on OUR behalf. All that He asks, is that we surrender to Him. That we accept the gift of salvation that He paid such a heavy price for. How do we do that? We pray this prayer:
“Father God, I thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus the Christ. I drop my pride at the foot of the cross and recognize that I can do NOTHING in and of myself. That I NEED You. I accept Your gift of salvation. I ask You to forgive me for my sins and wash me with the precious blood of Jesus. Jesus, come into my heart, please be Lord OVER my life. Holy Spirit please reside within me, showing me the way, I should go. I thank You Father, I thank You Jesus, I thank You Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ precious name I pray AMEN.”
That’s it – the beginning of a new life, both here and eternally in Jesus. If you have prayed that prayer, you have become a part of God’s remnant on this earth. I am rejoicing with you! The peace that passes ALL understanding is probably filling your heart with an overwhelming amount of joy! YOU BELONG TO HIM! Beloved, God is SO good, He loves you SO much. There is NO greater joy than that which is found in Him. Surrendering to God IS the beginning of wisdom and purpose and fulfillment and love no matter WHAT you face in this life. Why? Because God IS in control of even the most uncontrollable moments. Psalm 37:23 tells us:
“The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
GOD DELIGHTS IN YOU! HE DELIGHTS IN YOU!
Doesn’t that bring a smile to your face? Your Father delights in you. There is NO greater blessing than discovering who you are in Christ. Truly! You are greatly adored and deeply loved. 😉
