Jesus said in John 16: “I have told you these things, so that in Me you will have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus did not leave us without help. At times we may feel overwhelmed and that is when we need to remember His words. Jesus was no stranger to all that we have gone through (or are going through). The Word of God is alive and absolutely useable in times such as these. Jesus’ words were not only for the time they are written. God’s Word is suitable for ALL we go through. It guides us, it teaches us, it grows us, it comforts us, we only have to read it and gather strength from it.
When we keep our eyes focused on Him and not upon our circumstances, the peace that passes ALL understanding abides within us. Holy Spirit IS right there, remember He is also referred to as the Comforter. Sometimes we just need to quiet our thoughts and our minds down and believe that when everything else is crazy around us – God is our rock. Or as it says in Psalm 46:1:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Ol slewfoot would have us believe that we have been abandoned, that we are alone – THAT is a lie from the pit of hell. Everything we need to know is written in the Bible. God has said in Hebrews 13:5:
“I will never leave nor forsake you.”
When we feel alone, we need to run to Him. Jesus said in John 14:1:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled.”
And again He said in John 14:27:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.”
The world gives temporarily, what God gives is permanent and eternal. When we set our minds on Christ, Holy Spirit gently reminds us of All He has said in His Word. That peace that passes all understanding is something that the world cannot give. It is something that the world cannot understand. You have to be spiritually minded in order to dwell in that peace. When we turn our eyes to Jesus, that peace enters into our hearts. No matter what our circumstances. When we realize how dependent we are upon Him, when we find time to spend in His Word and in conversing with Him in prayer, no matter WHAT we are going through – we find joy. We find peace. We find love.
No matter what you go through, if you are in Christ, none of it comes as a surprise to Him. We were created to be dependent upon God, not figure things out on our own. If your heart is troubled, let’s bring that trouble before the Father.
“Father, thank You for Jesus. Thank You for sending Your Son to die on the cross for forgiveness of my sins. Thank You that He has created a way for me to enter into Your presence through prayer by the shedding of His blood. Thank You that You are the God who sees me. You know. Your Word tells me You know my thoughts before I even think them. You know when I sit down and when I get up. (Psalm 139:1-6) I am comforted by this because I can’t always find the words to describe what I am feeling. But You know already. Lord, there is so much going on around me, sometimes I feel as though my head is spinning with the craziness of it all. We are living in a time like no other. Things that come as a surprise to me, does not come as a surprise to You. You see ALL things. I pray that Holy Spirit would keep me come. Keep me focused. Lord, forgive me for my sins, I long to draw closer to You. If there is anything that is displeasing to You I pray that You would change my heart. Help me to focus on You. To do Your good and perfect will. Help me to know You better. Please bless me this day, bless my family, keep us in all our ways. Be glorified in our lives. Be with me Father, speak to me, guide me and give me ears to hear, eyes to see and a heart to receive ALL You are saying to me. Be glorified and thank You Lord. In Jesus’ precious name I pray. AMEN.”
When your heart is troubled, turn to the One who created it and welcome in His peace. He’s there, He knows and He cares. Turn your eyes to Him and you’ll find that peace.
