I want to write about something that most people try to brush under the rug of who they are… You don’t have to put up a “brave front” before the Lord, its okay to say to Him:
“Lord, I am feeling vulnerable. I feel like I’m a hair strand away from fractioning into a million pieces.”
Listen, God MADE you. You can be REAL with Him. Psalm 139:4 tells us:
“He knows our thoughts BEFORE we even think them.”
So why would you try to hide or downplay how you are feeling? When you are in a relationship with someone the way you grow that relationship is through transparency and honesty – it’s the same thing when you are in a relationship with God. Even though He knows your thoughts – He wants to HEAR you talk with Him about them. Prayer is a conversation and it doesn’t have to be “rehearsed” especially with your Heavenly Father.
TALK TO HIM. BE YOU. TELL HIM HOW YOU’RE FEELING. HE WANTS TO HEAR YOU SAY IT.
Think about – if you are a parent and you know something is on the heart of your child and you don’t want to press them too hard to tell you, but you want to make sure they know that you are there for them, when they finally DO come and pour their heart out to you, doesn’t it strengthen your relationship with them? It is the SAME with the Father!
Don’t feel as though you have to get all your “stuff” together before you can come to the Father! Listen, the Bible tells us in Romans 5:8:
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
The Bible also tells us in Isaiah 64:6:
“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”
You don’t have to have all your ducks in a row before you come before the Father, in fact ol’ slewfoot would try to make you feel as though you can’t go before the Father until you get yourself together, THAT is a lie from the pit of hell to keep you from going forward into a relationship with God. John 1:29 says:
“Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”
If you have entered into a personal relationship with God through the shed blood of Jesus, made Jesus Christ Lord over your life, accepted Him into your heart as Savior – YOU HAVE A RIGHT STANDING WITH THE FATHER IN HIM!
God loves you so much and He wants you to know that you can share your heart with Him, whatever it is that is pressing on you. Whatever it is that is making you feel fragile. Whether you are new in Christ OR you have been saved for YEARS. I can tell you that I have been a Christian for over 34 years and I STILL at times feel fragile! And guess what? We ARE! Our strength is found in Christ Jesus. In Joel 3:10 it says:
“Let the weak say, I am strong.”
God IS our strength, Psalm 46:1 says:
“God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in times of trouble.”
We are dependent upon God. Our strength comes from HIM – we were created to be DEPENDENT upon God. We are HIS creation. There is NO shame with that! So if you are feeling weak, talk to the Father! You can talk to God just like you talk to your closest friend.
“Father, I woke up feeling very fragile today… I feel like if someone would touch me, I would shatter into a million pieces. Lord, I thank You that I can boldly come before the cross and I can confess ALL that is in my heart. Father, if there is anything that I need to change or anything displeasing to you – I pray that you would remove it. I pray that if there is anything within me that needs changing, I pray You would help me to change it. I come before and I ask that You would make me strong in You. YOU are my strength, YOU are the lifter of my head. Thank you for being an ever present help in time of trouble. Thank You that I can come before You and be honest with You about how I feel. Thank You for being concerned about my feelings. Father, please make me strong in You. In Jesus’ name I pray. AMEN.”
Romans 8:31-39 says:
“If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Father God wants you to come to Him EXACTLY as you are. Believe me, Holy Spirit will change the things about you that need changing – and to be honest with you (having personally experienced this myself – and STILL experiencing it) the things that Holy Spirit wants to change about you, is a process that He works with you on throughout the course of your life. We are ALL works in progress for as long as we have breathe in our body! And I have found it to be amusing sometimes because all of a sudden something I use to do, I just don’t have a desire to do anymore. As long as we are open to the Holy Spirit showing us what He wants to change, it’s kind of like working on it together, somethings are instantaneous others are a changing process. But what matters is that no matter HOW you are feeling, God wants you to know that He IS there. He SEES you and He IS an ever-present help. You don’t need to dress “in your Sunday’s best” for Him – you can come to Him JUST as you are – He just wants you to come! People often get caught up in legalism and religion and THAT is NOT how the Father intended a personal relationship with Him to be, He wants you to come to Him JUST as YOU ARE.
Feeling fragile? That’s okay! Feeling sad? He already knows it. Feeling discouraged, downhearted, depressed, alone? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL. Go someplace quiet and talk to your Father, just you and Him (you don’t NEED a mediator – Jesus IS our High Priest, He already mapped a way for you to come before the Father). YOU be YOU before God and He will meet you RIGHT there where you are at, have a one on one conversation with Him and I promise you, He WILL strengthen you. He loves you, He knows you, He cares. Come JUST as you are. Your Father LOVES you.
