God thought of everything when He put together His love letter for us… EVERYTHING… He left NOTHING out. What am I referring to? I’m referring to the Bible, which was written by God inspired men. As someone who has been called to be a scribe for the Lord, I am in awe every time I open up my Bible. My GPS for life. My road map. It truly is called the “Living Word” of God for a reason. The Word IS alive… There is NOTHING it does not address, every subject, every topic you can imagine, but if you don’t have the Holy Spirit to give you insight into what you are reading, it won’t hit home. It won’t make sense… Kind of like a map that is invisible, if you don’t have Holy Spirit vision you very well might have a “huh?” moment. Oh dearest reader, my prayer for you is that you will pray before reading the precious Word of God… Pray for wisdom, pray for guidance, pray for understanding and then allow Holy Spirit to SHOW you how very REAL and PERSONAL He is, because what He opens up your spiritual eyes to see will be SPECIFICALLY and PERSONALLY FOR YOU. You simply have to ask for eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart to receive and understand ALL that Holy Spirit wants to show you… And when you do – can I tell you the many jaw dropping “WOW” moments you will have? FOR REAL! But be aware, because your enemy – the devil will do his darndest to keep you too busy to read it! He will dissuade you… He will try to turn your attention elsewhere. Honestly, he’s been good at it, the Bible gets a bum wrap, I have heard it called “boring, an old book that doesn’t pertain to current times.” Oh my! Now I can tell you for SURE that that is the BIGGEST LIE from the pit of Hell! Ol’ slewfoot doesn’t WANT you to know how personal for whatever situation you are going through, the Word of God is! 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
He will try to just keep “the family Bible on display” as if it just sitting there, unread will make a difference in the lives who pass by it. (I’m rolling my eyes and snorting). Seriously??? That’s like sitting a delicious meal on the counter and smelling the aroma, but not pulling up a chair and partaking of it! Hebrews 4:12 says:
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
That couldn’t be MORE true! The Bible personally ministers to you when you read it. If you are praying for God to speak to you, one of the major ways He does this is through His Word! And as Holy Spirit (who was sent to be your Teacher, your Comforter, your Guide) becomes your Karate Kid Mister Miyagi, He teaches you in a personal one one One way, the things within you that God longs to show you! You may need healing in your life, you may be searching for your purpose, whatever it is – the Word of God becomes a personal GPS or life’s tool to guide you.
Psalm 119:105 says:
“Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Matthew 7:24 tells us:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
Jesus, Himself even said in Matthew 4:4:
“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” “
But ol’ slewfoot has been successful in getting people to turn a “blind eye” to the Bible… Again, I will write (as I do in almost every post as a reminder) you are in the middle of a spiritual war, the enemy’s biggest tactic is to keep you from fulfilling your God ordained purpose in life and one of the ways he does this, is making you believe the following:
“The Bible is boring.”
“The Bible is just an old irrelevant book written by men. It is antiquated.”
My heart cringes when I hear statements like that, because it is the BIGGEST lie you could ever give credence to, the Bible is full of history, it is full of people who encountered the Living God FOR REAL. The Bible is the BIGGEST weapon that has been given to you to combat this war we are in. And many people are perishing because they refuse to read it, they refuse to believe it, they refuse to take the life-giving advice and go there own way up until their very last breath, when once taken – find out on the other side, how deceived they were. And it is a very sad thing indeed.
The Bible is our recipe book for life. It is through reading the Word of God (God’s love letter to us) that we learn how to draw closer to Him, through ALL stages of our lives. For example, right now Holy Spirit has been speaking to me about walking in love. As a follower of Christ, Jesus is to be our example, Jesus walked in love. The Bible is full of examples to follow – and sometimes those life lessons are harder to live by than others… If someone were to ask me to sum the Bible up in one word – I would know that word right away:
LOVE
Love is something that is often stated, but rarely shown. Love is something that is REALLY missing in today’s world. We live in a world that has become “all about me.”
What can you do for me? What is in it for me? What do I need? What do I want? Me! Me! Me! Me! Me!
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:2 says it directly (accurately and very prevalent to the world we live in today – see? It truly IS the living Word of God…)
“People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
And it grieves God’s heart. And if you truly love God, it should grieve YOUR heart too, I know it grieves mine. Jesus did not do His will, but the Father’s will. What was Jesus’ attitude? You can see it in the Garden of Gethsemane right before Jesus was taken to be crucified, this is what Jesus prayed in Matthew 26:36-42, take a look:
“Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and told His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” And He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him, and began to be grieved and distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.” And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? Keep watching and praying, so that you do not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cup cannot pass away unless I drink from it, Your will be done.” “
What is God’s will for you? It certainly isn’t that you should perish. 2 Peter 3:9 says:
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
When was the last time you picked up a Bible and read it? Read it with a heart to ask God what it is He wants to show you as you open it up? What attitude or perception did you open it up, if you did? Did you do it with a negative, unbelieving attitude? Or did you do it with a REAL desire for God to reveal Himself to you? Believe me, it makes a difference… When I first was told about Jesus, I had a serious attitude problem, but I honestly said to God the following:
“God IF You are REAL. IF You want (as they tell me) a personal relationship with me, than YOU will HAVE to make Yourself REAL to me.”
That wasn’t a disrespectful statement. That was a statement from my heart, and God knew it. And God DID.
Listen, you don’t have to read my words and believe them – you don’t, but I challenge you to do what I did – ask God yourself to make Himself real to you, but only do it if you mean it. And then watch and see what the REAL, TRUE, LIVING, LOVING God does…
Because He loves you JUST that much. He wrote you a love letter, why don’t you read it and find out for yourself? It will be the BEST decision you’ll ever make – believe me, I did it and I know. God loves you – ALL of you, the good, the bad, and the ugly and He wants you to experience His love. You and Him. And it starts with prayer and then picking up that big ol’ love letter your Father wrote you, and beginning to read it. (Try starting with the New Testament, the Book of John) – and SEE how much you TRULY are loved, because you are.
