For as long as I can remember, I have always envied Noah, Moses and Abraham who always seemed able to clearly hear from God… If only I could hear God’s booming voice say:
“Thus saith the Lord!”
(I’m smiling into my screen wondering if God still talks in the style of King James. π )
The problem is the older I get, the faster life seems to speed by… Remember when you were a kid in grade school, and you had three months of summer vacation and you felt as though you had ALLLLLLL the time in the world? At what point did the world start moving faster? When did days become shorter? Thoughts in my head become louder??? And the need for quiet to be able to hear what it is that God is saying to me. Do you feel the same? Indeed, silence HAS become golden and trying to figure out how to get back to the point where we can obtain it has become one of my current goals.
My prayer has truly become:
“Father, I thank You that I can come to You in prayer. I thank You for the personal relationship I know You desire to have with me, I desire to have the same. A personal relationship with You is a two-way street, please forgive me for the times I’ve become frustrated with not being able to quiet my heart, my head, my thoughts to hear what You have to say to me in answer to ALL the things I am bringing to You in prayer. I desperately desire to have eyes to see, ears to hear, a nose to smell Your sweet fragrance and a heart to hear ALL that You would have me know so that I can make sure that I am in the center of Your will for my life. Help me to quiet my thoughts and the noise around me, the distractions that the enemy uses to frustrate me and distract me from hearing the voice of Holy Spirit in my life. Thank You Lord that You see my heart, and You know the deepest desire of it is to hear You clearly. I desperately need You in EVERY part of my life. Please remove ANYTHING that is keeping me from hearing what it is You are saying to me. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, Amen.”
Dear person reading this, as I speak this prayer out loud over myself, I pray it is the same for you as well. Don’t listen to ol’ slewfoot when he taunts you with words that say, “God isn’t listening to you, or concerned about you.” It IS NOT true. Please remember that the VERY LAST THING he wants is for you to hear ALL that God is speaking over you and over your life.
REMEMBER THAT GOD IS GREATER THAN ANYTHING THAT COULD KEEP YOU FROM HEARING FROM HIM! THE BLOOD OF JESUS COVERS EVERY BLOOD BOUGHT BELIEVER. SOMETIMES WE REALLY NEED TO BE STILL AND GET IN A PLACE WHERE WE CAN BE QUIET TO FOCUS ON THE LORD AND WHAT IT IS HE IS SAYING. THIS IS WHERE PATIENCE COMES IN.
I know that the greatest moments for me, is when I am able to spend time in nature focusing on ALL the witness of God around me. Sitting on my back porch, watching the breeze sway the limbs in the trees in our back yard. Listening to the birds conversing (are they praising God with their songs?). Watching squirrels chitter and chatter and flick their tails back and forth as they sit in the trees (trying to steal food out of my bird feeders). The witness of God IS all around us, often we miss it because we are too busy with life. Too busy with loud thoughts. Too busy with distractions, we have to make it a point to take time to get wherever it is we can quiet our hearts, our minds, our thoughts, the distractions so we can focus on what is important – and the MOST important thing in our lives SHOULD be hearing from God. I know He is speaking to us ALL the time… Sometimes we are talking too much to hear Him. God wants you to talk to Him, but He also wants us to listen. Sometimes it is the listening that is the hardest…
What is craziest to me (and maybe to you too) is that those of us who are part of God’s Called Remnant (Born-Again Believers, followers of Jesus) try ALL of our lives to get back to what Adam and Eve ORIGINALLY had in the garden of Eden… A peaceful place, a place of fellowship with God. What was broken with the fall of Adam and Eve was RESTORED by Jesus. We ARE redeemed through Christ. We CAN have peace with God through Him. He IS the Way, the Truth AND the Life. He IS the Prince of Peace and because we have given our lives over to Him, made Him our Savior, Lord OVER our lives we can find peace in Him, we only have to determine to find the time to do so. Ask Holy Spirit to help you to hear Him better, to be in a place to receive… And He will! It is His pleasure to do so! God IS speaking to us; we just have to get to a place where we can listen. π
