This journey called life can really knock the wind out of you sometimes, can’t it? Just when you have got a comfortable rhythm going something changes… I don’t know about you, but I have never been a fan of change, but the truth of the matter is it’s inevitable. I have been thinking a lot about a scripture in James 4:13-15:
“Now listen, you who say, ‘today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you out to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ ”
Proverbs 19:21 tells us:
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.”
Again, in Proverbs 16:9 we are told:
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.”
How true is all of the above? I know I felt an “ouch” when I read James 4:13-15 above, but the truth of the matter is that we are in control of NOTHING. GOD IS. Which when it comes down to it, because a “trust thing” right? Jeremiah 29:11 tells us:
“I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
We have to decide to give up control and hand it over to Him. I’m not saying that is easy to do – it is a constant spiritual exercise over the muscle of our mind that we become VERY much aware of EVERY day. I wish I could tell you it gets easier; you just learn to trust and submit. Recognize that God is sovereign, and He REALLY does know what He is doing. Hey, listen – if God loved us enough to leave the glories of Heaven and come down and cloth Himself in human flesh (Jesus, the second in the Trinity), walk among us and choose to take on our sins upon His sin-less Self and die a horrible death on the cross FOR US. To rise from the dead and defeat sin and death upon that cross, and even RIGHT now is seated on the right-hand of the Father interceding on OUR behalf and will be coming back for us, don’t you think He knows what He is doing? Has ALWAYS known? I think we can trust in the One Who has proven that He loves us and is steadfast and reliable. The ONLY One Who NEVER changes not matter what. I find that comforting, don’t you?
So, if you are feeling insignificant, know that that is what the devil wants you to think! But you are NOT! God loved you enough to die for you! Our purpose is to find out and walk in the purpose that God created us to fulfill! You may think that you don’t have a purpose – but your purpose is MUCH more important than the temporary world-driven purposes of this life. Sometimes we look and compare ourselves to others (and get discouraged or disappointed), but God has made you special in and of yourself! He has a God-ordained purpose for you to fulfill! One that has eternal consequences in the lives of others! How can you know what that purpose is?
ASK HIM!!!! 🙂 CHASE AFTER GOD’S PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE
It could be something that you have been doing ALL your life! I NEVER thought my purpose would be in writing! That was something I had ALWAYS done ALL my life, so when the Lord told me that He had called me to be a scribe for Him, I was surprised. I had never considered writing! It was just a hobby that I did, a journal or diary that I kept! I say this to you, because your calling could be something you are already doing, maybe you are doing it for the world and not for furthering the kingdom of God? It’s time you look at your talents and consider the difference and impact you can make – an eternal one for the kingdom of God! Someone’s salvation could be riding on it! We are vessels! It is God Who uses Holy Spirit to do a work IN and THROUGH us! We ONLY have to be willing!
Listen, whatever it is God is calling you to do – if you allow Holy Spirit to use you as His vessel – He WILL! The way I think of it is like this, if just ONE person reads the words of my post and chooses to accept God’s gift of redemption and salvation that would have been enough! When you choose to glorify God with your life, NOTHING is ever wasted. I won’t lie to you and tell you it has been easy – it hasn’t, we are in a spiritual war that is occurring ALL around us – that’s the truth! But we are on the WINNING side. Jesus has won the battle ALREADY and the victory is OURS in Christ! Our victories through whatever we go through in life, grow us in Him! We live and have our being IN Him. And THAT is where the peace that passes ALL understanding is found, that is where satisfaction, joy and peace are found – a peace that the world CANNOT give. A place where we recognize that God’s plans for our lives have SO much more meaning than ANYTHING temporal that we can plan. You are NOT insignificant, unless YOU choose to believe that you are! You have a HIGHER purpose in Christ; it is up to you to find out what that purpose is and fulfill your destiny in Christ. You are VERY significant, how do I know? Because GOD SAYS SO, and God NEVER lies, and that my dear reader, is the God-given truth.
