People usually think of worship as singing praise songs unto the Lord, and yes, that IS one form of worship. The Bible says in Psalm 100:4:
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name.”
And music IS the universal language, but TRUE worship comes from the heart in MANY avenues or ways of expression. Music can be one form. The Miriam Webster dictionary defines worship as the following:
“To honor or show reverence for as a divine being or supernatural power.”
“To regard with great or extravagant respect, honor, or devotion.”
“To perform or take part in worship or an act of worship.”
God can be worshiped in many facets, music being the most obvious way. The most important way to worship God is for it to be a heart-thing. John 4:24 says:
“God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Personally, for me, worship has been a condition of the heart. God has created each of us with talents and gifts, those talents are talents that we were created with to honor Him, for me as you already know from my blog site and my “about me” page that you can find by clicking on the pink link below:
God has called me to be one of His scribes. My heart is in the words that you read in each post. I do not take my writing lightly. Psalm 29:2 says:
“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.”
Worship is a heart matter; God SEES your heart. Maybe God is filling you with the need to worship Him in some other way, what matters is that your heart longs to show God love. Show God appreciation, show God thanks! The only way I can describe it, is this feeling of overwhelming appreciation and love where you feel like a bottle of champagne that is about to explode and pour out. You can’t keep it inside; you just HAVE to have a way to express how MUCH you LOVE God. You want to share your love and devotion and appreciation in a way that is personal, it’s between you and God. And it IS realer than real. And God KNOWS it because He knows your heart. Romans 12:1 says:
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
Whether its music, whether it’s dance, writing, cooking, whatever it is that makes you feel close to God. For my husband, it is getting on his motorcycle and being alone with God in nature as he rides. For my boss it is serving God with her talents to help those less fortunate and allowing the light of Christ to radiate through her act of servitude to help others. Worshiping is honoring God. It is a heart thing. For my son it is dancing, true worship is WHATEVER it is that God puts in your heart to show Him love, it is the act of showing God love with ALL He has made you to be… John 4:23 says:
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.”
David said in Psalm 103:1:
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!”
To me, worship is summed up in the words of David in Psalm 63:1:
“O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
You can’t LOVE and not verbally, mentally, spiritually and physically show it! it is simply NOT possible. It amazes me that a lot of people yawn and say,
“Heaven will be a boring place, where people will strum harps, and sing praises to God. It will be boring!”
To that I snort and reply:
“Do you SERIOUSLY think that the God who created ALL the nature and GOOD things that you see around you – and we only see them now in its fallen state, not in the state that it was originally created in! Would have Heaven be a boring place??? You are SO sadly deceived and mistaken! The God who created you with tastebuds to ENJOY WHAT you eat? When He could have just created you with the need to sustain yourself through food without enjoyment. SERIOUSLY????”
People who think that Heaven will be boring place have NO idea how Grand our God is! They do God a disservice and give Him little or no credit. SHAME ON THEM! How SAD they are to think that they would know SO much better than the Creator what is Good! The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 2:9:
“But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
The near-death experiences that I have read show that many of those people HAVE NOT WANTED to return to their earthly bodies – WHY? Because of the glories of Heaven that God has allowed them a moment to witness! I can imagine NO GREATER joy than being in the presence of a God Who has done NOTHING other than SHOW how much He LOVES ME! And more than that – to spend an eternity LOVING HIM BACK!
HEAVEN IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!
So, when you think of what true worship is, really examine your heart! What is Holy Spirit revealing to you? There is always a sense of excitement at the ability and opportunity to show God love back! Because you CANNOT “out love God!” It becomes a serious love fest, you showing God love and Him returning love RIGHT back to you!
GOD LOVES YOU SO MUCH! LOVE HIM BACK!
Love Him with your words! Love Him with your life! Love Him with your talents! However Holy Spirit prompts you to show God love, do it! If you are not sure HOW to love God, do a study on it! Look up all the scriptures that talk about loving God. Jesus Himself said in Luke 10:27:
” And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” “
Jesus also said in John 14:23-24:
“Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.”
Jesus gave His life for us, when you make the decision to accept Jesus as Savior, make Him Lord OVER your life, you are choosing to worship God WITH the life you are giving to Him. And it is the BEST form of love, appreciation and devotion that you can give God. To live your life for Him. Jesus died for YOU, live your life for Him. It is the BEST decision (and the most important one) you will EVER make. Worship God through your life, EVERY day of your life. Seek Holy Spirit if you are uncertain how to do this, and He will instruct you, every day of your life. THAT is true worship, that comes from the heart.
“Father God, I love You. Help me to love You deeper, help me to worship You in EVERY aspect of my life, with my whole heart. Jesus, You have given EVERYTHING to me. You died for me, help me to live FOR You! Forgive me for seeing “worship” in just one sense – a duty more than a love offering. Show me through ALL You have made me to be, how I can worship You with my whole heart. Holy Spirit teach me, guide me so that I can do so in truth with ALL God has created me to be. Forgive me for the times when I thought “worship was boring”, an act of service that I did out of obedience and not out of my heart. I want to love You deeper, truer, show me how and I will love You with ALL I am, all You made me to be. In Jesus name I thank You for seeing my heart and knowing that my desire to do so is true. In Jesus’ precious name I pray, Amen.”
