It’s been a while since I’ve written – spiritual warfare occurred in my life and the lives of my loved ones in a way that in my 36 years of walking in Christ I’ve never experienced. I want to speak this Word to EVERY widow or widower or even to ANYONE who has suffered the loss of a loved one – and that pretty much speaks to everyone doesn’t it? For it was for this VERY reason that as in John 3:16:
“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
I lost my husband this year to a very rare and debilitating cancer. He fought hard to combat it over the last three years, but God called him home. My loss has been great, and my heart has shattered into a million tiny pieces but here is the thing I want to convey to my worship through my writing today – I *may* have felt as though we lost the battle (which is a lie the enemy would like me to believe…) but the truth is my husband belonged to Jesus. He gave his life to Him long ago – so the truth of the matter is, because of His decision for Christ, the victory over ANY battle that would occur in his life was ALREADY won! God through His love for the world provided the victory LONG before my husband was a twinkle in his mother’s eye! Long before God knit him together in his mother’s womb! When Jesus hung on that cross long ago, he took upon himself the sins of the world – and the victory for ALL that have accepted the gift of His salvation are VICTORIOUS over ANYTHING that the devil OR this life in this fallen world we live in would try to bring our way!
We have to make the decision that ABOVE ALL else we will worship and serve and love the God Who has loved us first! The God Who looked ALL the way down into the future and SAW me! Saw you! Saw my husband or your wife or your mother or your child or whoever pass passed away that you have loved – God ALREADY had a plan in place to rescue us and reunite us through Jesus to correct the wrongful decision that Adam and Eve made when they chose to disobey God in the Garden of Eden and by their wrongful decision allow sin, death, sickness and disease into the world! God loved us enough to leave the glories of Heaven and come down to where we are through the virgin Mary’s birth and by the power of Holy Spirit – come down in the form of man – Jesus the second part of the Trinity to RESTORE us by His sin-less life, death on the cross for forgiveness of our sins and His resurrection.
JESUS DEFEATED DEATH! BY CHOOSING TO MAKE HIM YOUR SAVIOR, LORD OVER YOUR LIFE – YOU HAVE THE VICTORY HE HAS PROVIDED! THE GARDEN OF GESTHEMANE TRIUMPHED OVER WHAT OCCURRED IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN!
My husband is pain-free. He is in the absolute presence of the God Who loved him enough to form him in his mother’s womb. He is at peace and is whole and MORE alive than we here on earth could EVER be! Why? Because when he made the decision to accept Jesus into his heart, the victory Jesus purchased for him on the cross became his! He became sealed BY the Holy Spirit, for eternal life.
Listen! This earth is NOT our final destination, it is NOT our home. It is NOT the place God intended us to dwell. Above ALL else we need to turn to the One Who loved us enough to die on the cross for forgiveness of our sins! The love I experienced with my husband was a rare and beautiful kind, given to me by a God Who loved me enough to bring him into my life! But the love of our God supersedes ANY human love that God could bring into my life (OR YOURS!). One doesn’t really KNOW love until they allow themselves to experience the love God has FOR US! How can I describe it? It is amplified! It is healing! It is knowing that the Creator LOVES me (and loves you!) in a way that no person can love us! Above ALL else we were created to worship and love and be in fellowship with the One who knit US together in our mother’s womb! And in spite of what we endure in this fallen earth, if you know God’s love – found through His Son Jesus, amplified by the dwelling of Holy Spirit once you accept Jesus as Savior, Lord over your life – NOTHING will EVER compare to His love! NOTHING.
We are not to put our love for others ahead of our love for God, the One Who brought our loved ones into our lives. That would be out of order. I used to tell my husband that I love God more than I love anyone because to do otherwise would be to love the gift that He (God) had given me MORE than the Giver Himself! Like saying “thank you” to the gift than to the One the gift came from! Love is from God, God IS love. Let us choose to love God ABOVE all else! And in spite of the pain we feel from losing someone we love – realize what a lie that is, if they belonged to Jesus. I’ve not lost my husband, He may not be with me physically, but He is home with the Lord, at peace, pain-free with those that chose the victory provided by God by the gift of salvation long ago. He stands victorious full of life with the Giver of life. Above ALL else. He stands victorious in Christ, as does YOUR loved one if they accepted Jesus their Savior, made Him Lord OVER their lives. The enemy has been defeated.
For those who want to share in my husband’s victory, provided by Jesus – all you have to do is accept the precious gift of salvation that Jesus has provided for you. Pray with me:
“Father God, I want what Kelly’s husband had – a restored relationship in You. I want to have the victory over ANYTHING that the devil and this life would try to bring my way and I know that the ONLY way I can stand victorious is to accept the precious gift You have provided for me – salvation through the shed blood and death on the cross Jesus endured. I choose this day to make Jesus my Savior, Lord OVER my life. In fact, the life I live I Give to Him! Jesus, please come into my life, BE my Savior and Lord. I believe You were born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sin-less life and died on the cross for forgiveness of MY sins! I believe You rose from the dead in resurrection and that EVEN NOW You are seated on the right hand of the Father interceding on MY behalf! And that You will one day come again and bring me to the place You indicated in Your Word that You have prepared for me! In making this commitment of faith, I accept the victory You have provided for me and ABOVE ALL else I choose You! Thank You Father God! Thank You Lord Jesus! Thank You Holy Spirit! In Jesus’ precious name I pray – AMEN.”
How do you find comfort? You open your arms to the Comforter (Holy Spirit) and you ALLOW Him to comfort you in ONLY a way that He can – I promise you that when you do this – He will! Listen, Jesus IS the resurrection AND the life and the BEST way to honor WHOEVER it is you are mourning, WHOEVER it is that has passed on – is to live a life WELL LIVED and the way to do that is to seek God and to find out just what HE has called you to do! He has a plan for your life! And He doesn’t mean to keep it a secret! He means for you to go forward IN Him and to live a life of victory! There is PEACE that is found in Him alone and for living according to His purpose for your life. God has you here for a reason! Find out WHAT that reason is and live it fully in HIM. At the end of this life, we will be reunited with our loved ones that have done the same. The Bible says in Revelations 21:4:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Then we will be able to say as it says in 1 Corinthians 15:55-57:
“Where O death is your victory? Where O death is your sting?”
Your loved one (as is mine) is in the presence of their Savior, no longer suffering, no longer living in a world where sin, death, sickness, illness and disease reign. One day we WILL see them again and rejoice all the more that our God has reunited us not ONLY (through Jesus) to Him, but also to those we have loved that entered the kingdom of Heaven before us. We CAN find comfort in that – for it is the TOTAL reason Jesus came.
HE REIGNS BELOVED, HE REIGNS! PRAISE HIS HOLY AND MIGHTY NAME!
